Jeff Lang is an Australian artist who is transcending the boundaries of traditional folk, blues, country and other roots music forms to create a new brand of non traditional music. A virtuoso guitarist with an achingly sweet voice and hypnotic performance style, Jeff Lang has carved out a unique niche for his compelling and continually evolving music.
Over the past decade, Lang has built an international reputation and a loyal fan base with constant touring in the US, Europe and Australia. He is a favourite on the festival circuit and has enjoyed national airplay, rave reviews, multiple ARIA nominations and the respect of his peers around the world. He has toured with Bob Dylan, Ani Di Franco, Dr John, Loudon Wainwright III and countless others.
Long acclaimed as a superbly gifted guitarist, Lang is now gaining recognition as a master songwriter. “If there’s a craft involved,” Lang says of his songwriting, “it’s that I’m getting better at recognising when that moment of inspiration is taking hold. If you don’t act on it immediately, it’s like trying to catch lightning in a bottle.”
Starting with the boyhood influences of the Leo Kottke and Dylan records in his father’s collection, Lang has spent his life discovering the musical greats, from the Harry Smith Anthology to Skip James and Dock Boggs, from Bert Jansch and Richard Thompson, to John Fahey and Ry Cooder, from Neil Young and Crazy Horse to the Dirty Three, from Chris Whitley to Devendra Banhart and of course, Rose Tattoo and AC/DC. These are just some of the diverse influences who continue to inspire Lang’s startlingly original music.
