The original trio line-up has now been augmented by Kat Gilmore on violin and as before Helen Holmes provides rock solid bass. However, the band's trademark remains the close harmony singing of Beth and Danni Gibbins.
The sisters swap solo leads, their voices perfectly complementing one another on the album's twelve songs which are mostly composed by elder sister Danni.
Ridiculous Bohemia was recorded and produced at Woodworm Studios in Oxford and at The Green Room in Devonshire by Mark Tucker. The brightness and clarity of the production highlighting the band's musicality and the addition of members of Fairport Convention contributing to many of the tracks shows how highly the Tiny Tin Lady’s are regarded.
Guest’s include, Gerry Conway, Ric Sanders, Mike Smith, Mark Tucker, Dave Sanderson, Barbs, Hannah Greenslade & Sophie Hicks.
“Full of talent, charm and chutzpah, they’re a joy to hear and to be with.” Fairport Convention
Tiny Tin Lady is an all-girl four-piece band based in St Helens, Merseyside. They were formed in 2004 by sisters Danni and Beth Gibbins.
Having performed as a duo supporting Fairport Convention at a local gig, Danni and Beth were offered a slot at Fairport's Cropredy Convention Music Festival. By the time they played the festival, Tiny Tin Lady had become a trio with the addition of another St Helens musician, bassist Helen Holmes.
In 2006 the trio recorded their debut album, Sound of Requiem, which was widely reviewed to critical acclaim.
Violinist and vocalist Kat Gilmore joined the band in 2006 and the four-piece played support on Fairport Convention's fortieth anniversary tour. The girls have also supported Jah Wobble and Midge Ure.
Tiny Tin Lady have now played at more than thirty festivals including Glastonbury, Cropredy, Big Session, Beautiful Days, Trowbridge, Solfest, Wickerman, UK Rhythm Festival and The International Eisteddfod.
In just three years the lady’s have become one of the most talked about bands on the acoustic scene, stunning audiences everywhere with their blend of brilliant, original songs, superb musicianship and spine-tingling harmonies.
Bandleader, Danni Gibbins, has drawn praise for her work from such luminaries as Ralph McTell and Richard Thomson. Her guitar work is a percussive and complex style reminiscent of Davy Graham or Bert Jansch, driving and exciting in its intensity. Her voice is a warm, expressive presence, drawing her audience into her private world of acoustic intimacy.
"Full of the wit, musicality and freshness that will guarantee them a rosy future" Daily Telegraph
Beth Reed-Gibbins is the possessor of a voice of awesome technique, power and passion. The sheer emotive power of this astonishing young girl’s voice can move audiences to spontaneous outpourings of applause mid-song. When she sang Sandy Denny’s “Who Knows Where The Time Goes” with Fairport Convention on their 40th Anniversary tour, she received ovations everywhere and Fairport described her as “Simply incredible, an amazing voice” Beth plays guitar and writes songs too.
Kat Gilmore, joined the band in August of 2006 and her brilliant fiddle playing and pure, folk, harmonies fitted in perfectly. Kat is a musician of the highest quality and her superb interplay with Danni’s lead guitar weaves a web of gossamer delicacy behind the band’s thrilling harmonies.
"Brimming with brio, chockfull of charm and terrifically talented" The Scotsman
Helen Holmes plays a funky, rootsy and jazzy bass, providing a solid ground for the others to build on. Her technique has drawn admiring comments from such four-string maestros as Fairport’s Dave Pegg and Jah Wobble. She can shake and groove with the best and is recognised as one of the best female bassists in the UK
